Welcome to my site.I have been on a weight loss journey all 53 years of my life and recently decided upon gastric bypass surgery.I attended the weight wise clinic for ten months and have already had my surgery so if this is something you want you must do the things they ask you to do and it will go much faster. They never really tell you that you have to lose weight but the truth is that they wait for you to lose ten percent of your body weight as this reduces the fat around the liver and makes surgery much safer.
The other thing they will ask is that you complete at least four of their information modules but you really must complete all ten of them. These modules are very informative and help to keep you on track.

One of the first things you will be required to do when joining the weight wise program is journalling and keeping track of your steps. In the journal you are required to record everything you eat and drink plus your activity such as steps in a day. When I first started counting my steps I was only doing 800-1000 per day. They do ask that you work on this and try to increase a little at a time.Ideally they would like to see you do 10000 steps per day but this will depend on a lot of factors as everyone is different.I did get my step count up to between 5 and 6 thousand per day.A good step counter and heart rate monitor is essential to keep you on track. |

Is weight loss surgery for you?
Bariatric surgeons say to qualify for surgical intervention a patient should have a body mass index (BMI) that is greater than 40, or greater than 35 with significant medical problems related to obesity. If you meet these early criteria, you can work with your family doctor to explore your medical and weight loss history to determine if you are a good candidate for referral to a specialist. You need to get started with this process right away as there are long waiting lists and a lot of things you will need to complete before surgery. |

Check your BMI Body Mass Index with our handy calculator to the left to see if you are a candidate for bariatric surgery.I chose gastric bypass surgery as I felt that was the surgery that was right for but there are other surgery's that are just as effective such as gastric sleeve surgery and lap-band surgery. You will need to do some research and work with your doctors to find out what if any would be the right choice for you.
